Model 952 measures and documents RF signal levels for VHF/UHF TV broadcast, cable and FM operations and extends measurement capabilities into satellite first-IF coverage. It features an AUTO SEARCH mode augmented by extensive EPROM lookup tables to quickly assess active channels and set both sensitivity and reference levels. Signal status is displayed in pargraph form with up to 128 channels shown at once. A moveable cursor can be aligned with any carrier to read out both frequency and signal level. Measurement programs may also be set up manually or auto-set programs edited to meet the needs of particular systems. Channels may be added or deleted and the programs modified to add sound carriers. New channel frequencies may be entered manually for custom and experimental operations. Both the programs and the data they collect may be stored in memory for future use and for documentation purposes. Program recall selects from 4 programs of up to 128 channels each.
Satellite measurements make use of lookup tables for satellite IF's and new frequencies may be added manually at any time. Up to 32 satellite channels are shown at once with a memory for 16 groups. Signal-to-noise measurements are included for satellite operations. In addition, DC power for the down converter may be provided from the input F connector with programmable supply voltage (+12 to +18V in 1 V steps).
Measurement flexibility is highlighted by the choice of engineering units: dBmV, dBmW, dBmV or dBmVEMF. Supply voltage, both AC and DC, carried on the cable feed can be measured with the built-in DVM that selects AC or DC automatically and also measures load current. And the RS-232C interface, provided as standard, enables transfer of data and graphics to a personal computer or printer. A dedicated printer, Model 712, accepts data/graphics with a touch of the front panel PRINT key. Power is supplied by 8 D cells and a defeatable power interrupt after 5 minutes is provided to conserve battery life.
