Frequency synthesis and microprocessor control give this generator wide versatility coupled with ease of use. User-friendly keypads provide control of frequency, modulation parameters and output levels. Operating setups can be stored and recalled for routine tests at up to 100 addresses and recalled setups can be modified temporarily without disturbing the programmed entries. Battery backup protects the memory for up to a month in case of power lapse. RF frequency range from 100 kHz to 140 MHz provides coverage for both operating and IF frequencies. Setting resolution is 100 Hz at operating frequencies below 30 MHz and 1 kHz above. Output levels can be changed in 10, 1 and 0.1 dB increments. The PLL synthesizer ensures stable output frequencies (±50 ppm).
The 3216 front panel display includes large, bright LEDs for AM/FM/Pilot or total modulation, memory, RF frequency and RF output. AM modulation (0-60.0%) or FM deviation (0-99.9 kHz) are available internally at 400 Hz and 1 kHz as well as externally. The 19 kHz pilot deviation can be set from 0-10.0 kHz. FM stereo modes of operation include L, R, Main (L+R), Sub (L-R) and Pilot. External modulation can be applied to all of the above modes via the left external modulation input. Stereo modulation can be applied via the left and right external inputs. Stereo separation is 55 dB or more at 1 kHz. The GPIB listener option makes the generator ideal for AM/FM receiver production and QC applications where high throughput is necessary All front panel switches (except AC power) can be remotely controlled via the 24-pin connector on the rear panel.
KEY FEATURES
Modulation display indicates the modulation factor in 3 digits. The maximum deviation for FM is 99.9 kHz and the maximum modulation factor for AM is 60.0%.Addressdisplay indicates the (0-99) address of the internal memories which stores all front panel settings including frequency, output level, modulation frequency, mode, % or deviation and pilot or total peak deviation. This memory is backed up by battery.Frequencydisplay indicates the RF frequency in 6 digits. The resolution is 100 Hz for carriers between 100 kHz to <30 MHz and 1 kHz for carriers of 30 to 140 MHz.Outputdisplay indicates the RF output level in 4 digits. The output level resolution is 0.1 dB from -20.0 to 126.0 dBm.Editcontrols permit rapid changes to the RF frequency and the RF output level.Program/Data Entryallows programming, recall and operation of generator functions with direct recall of any memory for convenient routine testing.AM/FMmodulation can be set by internal 400 Hz or 1 kHz frequencies or external modulation from 20 Hz to 100 kHz for FM and 20 Hz to 10 kHz for AM.FM Stereo Modulationpermits internal/external modulation control of L, R, L+R, L-R and pilot modes with stereo separation of 55 dB or better.
