AERODYNAMICS
Traning for Technology and Science Program

The DISCOVERY AERODYNAMIC MODULE…MODEL D3100 provides the student with a hands-on experience in the technology of computerized aerodynamics that addresses both vehicle design and airfoils. The D3 100 is unique with its 3 in 1 concept of providing in one unit the ability to test drag, air flow, and airfoils. All measurements are made by a computer (not supplied) in GRAMS, and for the science contingent, measurements are also displayed in NEWTONS. The electronic sensing system is so sensitive that it will detect any change in the design within 1/100th of a Gram or Newton. The wind tunnel generates wind speeds of 40 to 45 MPH and has the ability to test various types of vehicles including C02 racecars. The student will actually see the air flow stream over the tested shape through the use of a wind streamer. A unique feature of the system is the ability to change the angle of attack of the airfoil and use both a flap and spoiler. The airfoil also supplies a weight system in order to introduce a load valve to the lift factor. Due to the design of the system, the wind fan is very quiet compared to others on the market making the DISCOVERY D3100 ideal for classroom use. The D3 100 has the ability to examine cars, airfoils, and various shapes, up to a size of 9" x 31/2" x 3". A vehicle design kit is included with the system that will accommodate 20 to 30 students. A 10-day curriculum program supports the system.

Specifications:

The DISCOVERY D3 100 Computerized Aerodynamic module shall provide hands-on training in the technology of vehicle and airfoil design. The system requires a computer with DOS 2.1 or higher and a 115 VAC grounded power source. All hardware, courseware, computer software and connecting cables are included.

Wind Tunnel Base Assembly:

The base unit shall provide an 18 gauge steel base with the wind tunnel mounted with removable safety shield. The tunnel shall generate a wind speed of 45 to 50 MPH through the use of a squirrel cage fan system. The base unit shall have an on/off switch with an indicator light and be safety fused. The wind tunnel shall provide a testing platform that is monitored by an electronic sensor system that provides feedback to a computer. All readings will be presented in both Grains and Newton's. The tunnel shall be fitted with air straighteners to assure Laminar airflow throughout the tunnel testing area. The system shall monitor airflow using both visual and computer devices.
